Echinacea Tinture Recipe
Echinacea is a flowering plant native to North America. It is also called coneflower. It is a member of the daisy family. Echinacea has been a popular herbal remedy for centuries. Today, it is often used to prevent or treat viruses that cause colds, sore throats, or the flu. Check with your doctor before adding echinacea to your routine.
Common Name: Purple Coneflower
Botanical Name (Latin/Scientific): Echinacea purpurea
Plant Part and Cut: dried roots, macerated
· Amount of ingredient #1 200 ml of 80 proof vodka
· Amount of ingredient #2 40 g dried echinacea root
Steps:
Step 1 – Cleaned a 250ml jar for use
Step 2 – For a 1:4 tincture, I multiplied 40 (grams of Echinacea) x 5 to get 200 ml of solution An 80-proof alcohol contains 40% alcohol and 60% water, so I don’t need to add any water to dilute vodka.
Step 3 – Measured the Echinacea and ground with a stone mortar and pestle
Step 4 – I put the Echinacea in a jar
Step 5 - I measured out 200 ml of vodka and added it to the jar
Step 6 - Labeled the jar and put it our of direct sunlight
Timing: 2-4 weeks
